My Secret SuperPower (plus giveaway)

HELLO!  My name is Mara, I am an American living in Greece, so glad you stopped by during another wonderful hop put on by Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt and our Cheerleader for this hop Pauline of  QuiltNQueen.
We are showing off our SuperPower's from April 11th to April 21st.
I think everyone has a SuperPower, a Secret SuperPower, maybe only a few people know about.....
Perhaps a Secret SuperPower that doesn't show it's self often ....Like Mine....
My SECRET SUPER POWER you ask?  shhh.....

I CAN BE FOXY

Oh Yeah, you heard me right, FOXY!

Secret Super Power, FOXY HOOP!
Way back in the day when I was younger, I sold make-up and I learned a few tricks of the trade in applying said make-up.  I only put on my full blown war paint make-up two times, both for weddings.
One was a family wedding and all of my Aunts, Uncles and cousins kept coming up to me and commenting on how beautiful I was and asking "What did you do?" Living in LA at the time, I think they thought I had done some sort of cosmetic surgery, that is how much this tool/make-up can change your appearance.

Now I am about ready to give away MY SECRET, so we can ALL have this Secret Super Power.
We will be a Club, of Super Foxy Women (and perhaps men, who knows).
Self photos (1st Without Make-up, 2nd with Make-up and yelling at my daughter)
First Take a black and white photo of yourself, most people will find black lines under their eyes, around their nose, corners of the mouth and around the chin line.  Now go out and buy yourself a tube of white concealer, I used to sell the brand SeneGence.  I don't have any more and I couldn't find any white concealer's here in Greece so I used the next best thing a white cream that is used for wrinkles, I just didn't blend it in as much and left it fairly intact while I added my powder foundation.  Apply to those dark areas, when you apply it along your jaw line it will get rid of any double chins and make your face appear thinner, blend it into your skin, then apply your regular foundation over the top, add a little eye liner and mascara, and your FOXY!

Okay, now you are asking yourselves "What in the World does this have to do with Stitching and Sewing?"
Glad you asked, have you heard of Knockout Neutrals and Spotlight on Neutrals, both books from Pat Wys.  She talks about Value and you can say the 2 things, your face and your quilts are connected.

How do I look in Color!
Just realized I am wearing black, lol color, look at my awesome bag, it's in a rainbow of colors and has a fox on it, so not only am I foxy, so is my bag, Thanks to Mary of Mary Moon Designs for my tote during a recent swap, LOVE IT!
I also made a bathroom pouch to go with my new bathroom foxy hoop decoration.  I used Vilene Lamifix for part of the fabric so it can sit on the bathroom counter sink area and I won't worry about it getting wet,
plus the outside see through pocket is lined with the lamifix and I used a plastic table cloth that I got at the Euro (Dollar Store) for 1.50 euro, don't you just love it when the dollar store sells things that are not a dollar, HA!

I used Brussels Washer Linen in Silver and Ed Emberley Picture Pie Fox in Grey.

Plus lots of Orange, Orange Kona, Orange Felt, Orange Zipit Zippers
and of course Orange DMC thread # S741
Linking up all of this "bright" Orange and sparkly thread to
Le Challenge

I also used
DMC Light Effects #E130 for some sparkle on the mask and around the lettering of foxy.
I am picking 2 WINNERS for the Giveaway, it is a SECRET Giveaway, the first winner will be chosen randomly and will win an assortment of fabric and a glass pendant made by me, the second winner will be chosen based off of their answer to the question
What is your favorite Holiday? and
What's your favorite way or Super Power way of stitching, Do you like Quilting, Embroidery, Knitting, Cross-Stitching, NeedlePoint, or Crochet, or any other ways that I haven't mentioned?
The second winner will receive a half yard of holiday themed fabric and a stitching book(these prizes are already picked out and are themed generated so that is why I would like to know the answers to the questions above)  Thanks!

My favorite holiday was Halloween, but since we don't celebrate that in Greece it is now Easter, and that is coming soon!  And I love to do Embroidery, I think it is fun and there are so many options.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today and be sure to check out the other bloggers of the day, all though if you are following the hop, I should be your last stop!
Follow on Bloglovin

And if you are still here and wondering why I don't put on my foxy make-up very much it is because the last wedding I wore it at was a friends/co-workers wedding and another co-worker started yelling at me during the reception about why I looked so good and got very mm.. violent about my looks.  It was interesting, lucky for the me the bride was humored and she even thought it was funny that the camera man must have also thought I looked pretty foxy hot, since I was in all of the photos of the wedding, except the cake cutting, lol, now that was totally funny.  Lucky for my friend I had been in charge of taking pictures of our bachelorette party in Reno and there was only 1 picture of me in there during our group photo.
The End.  So just be careful on where you decide to get Foxy!
My daughter put on some make up too :)
Be sure to answer the questions in the comments to be entered in the giveaway it will end on April 21st at the end of this blog hop, the rest of the blog hop days can be found here.

  5. Mara - thank you for the white concealer tip. I don't have to take a b&w pic to know I have horrible circles under my eyes. I hadn't thought about some of the other places to look for opportunities to enhance. That is funny about being in all the pix. I bet my nephew has lots of pix of me. The photographer seemed to be taking lots of pix of me. He was following me around - I felt sorry for my nephew. Your foxy creations are fabulous. What a great idea for your bathroom, too! You and your daughter certainly have "a Kodak moment." Thank you for sharing your superpower, participating in the hop, and being a great, great inspiration.

  6. My. Favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I get together with my brother, sisters, brother in laws, sis in law, nieces, nephews, and mom. We have a yummy meal, talk, laugh, and play games and watch football. It usually ends up being 2 meals the day lasts so long. My favorite secret stitching super power is embroidery. It is so relaxing and an embroidered project can be turned into so many things!! Thanks for a chance to win!

  28. Love it Mara! The little fox is too cute, and thank you so much for the makeup tips, I need them lol. My super power is definitely quilting, I can't hand stitch worth a darned. And my favorite holiday would have to be Christmas for sure :)

  29. Foxy lady! What great stores, and love the fox. Valentines's Day. My birthday is the day before, plus, I like the red and white combination. I have embroidered all my life. I was taught when I was a little girl, and continue to stitch.

  30. I really like embroidery whether it's by machine or by hand. It's so versatile! I like your superpower, I don't wear makeup but I did wear it on my wedding day. It's amazing to see how different it can make you look.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I thought and thought and decided my favorite holiday was the 12th day of Christmas or King's Day. Why? Because I always have so many things I want to make and give that I"m never done by Christmas, so it is my very own rationalization to celebrate with gift giving a wee bit later! I used to do all kinds of handwork, but my favorite is probably now crochet because I can do it in spite of my arthritis. In fact, after one hand surgery, with my hand and all but my middle and ring fingers in a cast, I discovered I could crochet a baby afghan using a wooden P hook and only those two free fingers to manipulate it. I still mess with the others, though. Can't bear to part with all of my supplies.

  32. You are definitely FOXY with your superpower. Looking good...yes you are! Your fox is almost as adorable as you. :O) I've learned to love embroidering, but I've still got a long way to go to be great at it. Halloween is my favorite holiday.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your little Fox is adorable! You look pretty foxy, too. Thanks for the makeup tip. I needed it!
To answer your question, I love to applause and I almost always add e embroidery to that. My favorite holiday is Christmas.

  34. Great post. You are definitely foxy! My favorite holiday is the 4th of July. I love the parades and all the patriotism that goes with it. It's one holiday that seems to pull everyone together. My stitching superpower would have to be quilting. I dabble in embroidery, knitting & crocheting but quilting is my true love although lately I seem to be doing an awful lot of mending! Does that count?!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. What great projects!! Creative lady!!! :)

I love Easter too..but Christmas is my Favorite Holiday! All the Kiddo's are able to be here for this one! : D

I am new to quilting...and has become my favorite stitching "power"..not sure how "super" tho! lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. Great post! My favorite holiday is probably Christmas. Not even so much for the holiday itself but because that is the one time of year I typically get to see all of my extended family (I've moved 11 hours away so I don't get to see everyone very often).

My stitching superpower is quilting but I am also looking to learn a little embroidery!

  37. Mara...you are too funny...I luv you post and your foxy projects. I'm going to go out and buy the 'biggest' tube of white concealer. I love to quilt and embroider but I enjoy knitting and crocheting too. Great take along projects for road trips. Thanks for sharing...foxy lady...what a fun and foxy post!! Happy stitching, Pauline

  38. My favorite holiday is HALLOWEEN. Always has been even though I don't much go in for all the candy. Something about the whole season is exciting to me. I like best to quilt and embellish as I go as in the Linda Potter book, Quilt and Embellish in One Step. It involves lots of perle cotton, beads, and buttons. I am a bloglovin' follower: Sewbeads, I think or maybe Purl Buttons.

  39. My favorite holiday is anything that is patriotic...so that means, President's day, Flag Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Veteran's Day. This is because I have a patriotic quilt that we hang on our front porch on each of those days. My neighbor noticed it and asked why I had a quilt hanging on my porch...duh!!! I want to make more for other holidays. yessewingisfun@yahoo.com

    ReplyDelete
  40. My favorite holiday is also Easter. Not only for the true meaning of Easter but the fun egg hunts and making new Easter dresses. I love to piece quilts!

  42. Foxy Lady- your projects are awesome! My favorite holiday is Mother's Day because I get to spend it doing special things with my two grown daughters. They are busy with their own lives but twice a year, my birthday and Mother's Day, I get them all to myself. We've eaten lunch at a brewery on the coast and enjoyed the view, took a walking history tour and had lunch in a historic hotel. I still haven't decided what to do this year. Although I have a few ideas, do you have any suggestions?

I love seeing those little ones dress up and pretend for a day. Heck even us big ones like it too!

  69. You are so funny! I need this make-up trick...I have two kids and the dark under eyes to prove it. My favorite holiday is Christmas. It is even better with kids. I have no stitching super powers, really. When I do straight line quilting (that's all I am capable of) I like to crank up the stitch width. I think it makes it look purty!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Funny story about the make-up and the wedding…Like your foxy projects! My favorite super power is the quilting part of making the quilt. I love the way the quilting gives a project texture.

My Super Power way of stitching, is probably embroidery, though I also sew, quilt, crochet, cross stitch and many other types of needlework

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think foxy makeup should be part of every woman's morning routine - JUST FOR YOU! After several surgeries, I know I feel better if I look good!

Thanksgiving is my favorite right now. With elderly parents, we try to get the whole family together for this holiday. We all pitch in bringing parts of the meal so no one has to do it all. Aside from that, it is a relaxing day to visit and catch up.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Such a cheery bag. My favorite holiday is is Easter. It used to be Christmas. My super power way of stitching is probably cross stitch. I am better at it than quilting since I have been doing it longer. Non-quilting sewing might be on par with the cross-stitching.

    ReplyDelete
  77. My current favorite holiday is New Years. Still part of the Christmas holiday season, but after all of the family obligations are over. Just me and my husband, getting dressed up and doing whatever *we* want to do. :) My super power way of stitching is quilting; especially hand quilting. It's an excellent method of making quilts take forever. Love all your little foxes. Thanks for the chance to win.

  79. Cute and foxy! Way to go, Mara. I would say quilting/piecing is my superpower though I love hand quilting. Wish I had more time to do it. THX for the giveaway opportunity.

  80. Very, foxy. Love it. Holiday? I wish Super Bowl Sunday was a holiday, but since it's not, I choose Thanksgiving. There is just something about eating that I love. I power stitch at my machine. I can cross stitch and embroidery, but there is something about following the lines with my machine that does it for me. I usually use two threads to make it look like embroidery, but shhh, don't tell anyone it's by machine.

  81. Fun, fun project!!! I think Christmas is my favorite and quilting is my super way of stitching :)
