Tammy 4 All Seasons Blog Hop

This was a very interesting blog hop organized by Mary and invented by Madame Samm with the patterns created by Brooke Nolan and Cori Blunt. I want to let you know this is my first time trying out cross stitch or turn-edged applique and I failed miserably at both.
I have decided that cross stitch just isn't for me, not only is someone telling me the design, but they have already picked out the colors....nope, not going to have it.  That's the funnest part of creating for me, is picking out the colors.  So here is my take on Brookes design and yes it is lovely in the original version as well.
I took out the starfish, cause a starfish on the beach means it's dead.  I have never worn a scarf to the beach or just one flip flop, so I added another flip flop and put a towel under my swimsuit.
I realize my colors look totally fallish, I guess I should have picked the Fall pattern instead, lol, but summer is my favorite season.
My fabric inspiration for the color choices.
The interior
As you have noticed, I do not have the handle on the bag, it is in transit, hopefully not being kept hostage by the custom police, I have not been contacted asking for ransom money yet.
Here's the winter pinny, but cupcakes screams Summer to me, since we have so many summer birthdays and we always make cupcakes.
I have a small giveaway today, I will not be doing cross stitch again, at least I don't think I will anytime soon, so I am giving away the extra "fabrics" I had bought, I have no idea what they are called, but they are 14 count. , one is the copper gold shots through it and the other has more of a cool gold shots through it, plus 2 extra DMC threads that I accidentally picked up even though I already owned them, white and 3821.

Just leave a comment, I might throw in a few more items, depending on weight, giveaway ends January 26th midnight Greece time.
Updated: Winner Picked
And the winner is (let's hope this works, first time trying to get the widget to show up on the blog)  I had 3 entries from my new Instagram account, yeah IG!

It worked!  And the winner is #46, who is.....Theresa of Bumleberry Cottage, she not only got her cross stitch finished but she did ALL 4 Seasons (go check them out), so I know she likes to cross stitch, so happy these fabrics will be going to someone who loves to cross stitch!

Go visit all of the other fantastic ladies showcasing their Tammy bags today.

  1. I love your choice of colors. I'm one that usually follows the pattern to the tee - even quilt patterns, I'll think surly the pattern can't be wrong. I back stitched all the items - just something I picked up doing cross stitch - maybe this more modern? You did a wonderful job of your interpretation of the pattern. Thank you for participating. I can hardly wait to see your pinny.

  4. Oh you made me laugh! What was with the dead starfish and the one flipflop! I gave up on cross stitch a long time ago, but I have found that I do love embroidery! And as for needle-turn applique - I need to give it another chance I think!

  6. That was a great attempt! You are the first one to freely admit that cross stitching sucks! Finally, I was starting to feel like there was something wrong with me! I love what you did with the pattern and am very curious to see what the finished bag will look like! Thank you, you made me smile today!

  7. I love the swimsuit too - with the colour block behind it looks great.

  8. A lovely job. You are not the only one who made changes to make the project their own. That is totally fine. The pattern is a base, if you will, to build on. Yours looks beautiful. The copper colors say warm summer to me.

  9. I think for a 1st timer you did a great job and if you don't love doing cross stitch it is perfectly ok too. Maybe someday you'll find a different project that calls to you.

  11. I like the colours that you used. As an avid x-stitcher I'm saddened to read that you don't plan to x-stitch again. :)

  15. Who says you can't wear orange in the summer? You obviously do and beautifully I might add! Of course two flip flops - I never thought of that! blessings, marlene

  16. I had to change up my colors just to make it mine, too. Love the towel under the suit! Great job on your first and last cross stitching adventure!

  17. Ohhh, I do love that Aida cloth you used. I've never seen any with colored threads thru it before! Great job. It's fun to see how everyone can change things up to make them their own!

  19. I'm right there with you as far as having to use someones creativity in my own project. I like the design process best. You really did great on your cross stitch.

  20. You did a great job! I loved the outside the cross stitching box design you did!

  23. Mara,I am in love with your Tammy! The improv you did is just awesome and the colors are making me just a tad jelly ;)(jealous). You rocked it out of the park in my book girl! I hope that you do Not have to pay any ransom for your handle/frame!

  24. I love your colors. If I were to ever wear a bathing suit (which I am pretty sure will never happen) it would be black so your Tammy rocks for me. Thanks for sharing.

  25. You did a great job. Not sure how much cross stitch I will do after this project either but I am glad I tried. I still have to finish mine. I am determined to do it.

  26. I love what you did with it. Your colors and design...beautifully done! I too am not a fan of cross stitch, nor someone else's design. I always have to make it "me". lol

  27. I totally think you should do your own things when it comes to picking colors; it is fun! Great little bag and the ruffle on the outside pocket is an added sweetness.

  32. LOL.... never cross stitching again! I completely get that, BUT also find that it is strangely addictive for me. I think this project is a little too much for a first timer, but I love your color choices, they look amazing. Your pinny looks great too, and I just love that you tried needle turn even though you didn't like your outcome. Handwork is not for everyone, but at least you gave it a go. Happy Stitching! ~Cori

  33. Your Tammy in the custom colors is fantastic! Noone says we have to go from dot one to dot 2 and so on. It is always awesome to be able to think outside the box. Wish I could do that more often.

  34. I think you are right, we each have to fulfill our creative soul. Don't put me in the draw for the cross stitch supplies, I don't think I'll be making any unless it's tiny. I like your use of the Dottie cotton + steel, I have some of that but it doesn't have a home yet.

  35. Very pretty I like your colors they are more rich looking.

  36. Mara, you did great...I changed my summer bag too...like you I stitched 2 flip flops and I didn't add the scarf. I love it but I must say I did a lot of unstitching...I've come to the conclusion I can't count....I can't believe how often I messed up because I didn't count right. I'm sorry to hear you are giving it up...I am going to stick with it but it definitely is harder on the eyes than any stitching I've done. Happy stitching, Pauline

  37. I like the changes that you made. I think picking out the colors is the funnest part too. Your bag is very pretty and I love the metallic.

  38. For being a beginner at cross stitching, you did a remarkable job. Your fabrics are very sophisticated. And the colors are beautiful. I like the changes you made to the design, especially the towel under the swim suit. I have cross stitched for over 35 years, but not much in the past few years. It gets harder, the older I get.

  39. I'm not to good at following instructions either, I like your take on the pattern. You've made it uniquely yours which is great.

  40. I love how you chose fall colors for your summer Tammy and pinnie. I hope you will post a pic once the handle is on. You did a fine job, and thanks for reminding us that a starfish on the beach is dead. I didn't know that! yessewingisfun@yahoo.com

  41. I wish you would cross stitch with me, because I never use the colors and have never used the pattern fully except one Halloween and its not finished so that says it. You did great using your art brain. Your also stitching on the wrong fabrics, that stiff stuff is for the birds, literally they like it. I use real linen, a 32 or 40 count. xo

  42. I love your take on the Summer pattern - great colors - very cool cloth to stitch on! Your project is beautiful!

  43. I love your variation of the pattern. It looks so pretty with that glittery Aida. I made mine from a lighter shade like that. I have never seen any like that. Your work is simply beautiful.

  44. I think your summer pattern looks lovely in its fall colors.

  48. Lovely Tammy bag. Your stitching is well done, it is hard to tell that you had problems. I like that you changed the pattern to your tastes. Many would leave it, even though they did not like it.
